Exam Board: OCR

In Year 12 and 13 you will study compulsory and optional units for each level of the course.  Below are the compulsory units.

Extended Certificate (1 A-Level equivalent): Body Systems and the effects of physical activity, Sports coaching and activity leadership, and Sports organisation and development

Diploma (2 A-Level equivalent): all extended certificate compulsory units plus Organisation of sports events, Physical activity for specific groups, Sports Injuries and rehabilitation and Practical Skills in Sport and Physical Education

Extended Diploma (3 A-Level equivalent): All of the extended certificate and diploma units plus Performance analysis in sport and exercise, Improving fitness for sport and physical activity, Nutrition and diet for sport and exercise, working in activity leisure facilities and the Business of Sport. 

You will also study a number of optional units selected from the ones listed above plus;

Group exercise to music, Biomechanics and movement analysis, Health and fitness testing for sport and exercise, Sport and exercise psychology and, Sport and exercise sociology.

Assessment

There will be a combination of unit exams and written controlled assessments throughout the course.

All other units are assignment based and will be internally assessed.

Requirements

College Entry Requirements plus a grade 5 at GCSE PE or Merit in a vocational sports course would be an advantage.

Where can it lead?

Students with either one of the combinations above go onto university to study Physical Education, teaching, Sports development plus many other sports courses. Also this leads nicely into a verity of jobs opportunities and vocations.
